According to His Manager, Benoît Saint-Denis Would Have Had a Title Shot if He Had Beaten Poirier

In an interview with RMC Fighter Club, Giom Peltier, the manager of Benoît Saint-Denis, claimed that the Frenchman would have secured a title shot if he had defeated Dustin Poirier.

On March 10, Benoît Saint-Denis (13-2-1NC) had an opportunity to make history. The Frenchman faced the legend Dustin Poirier (30-8-1NC) in the co-main event of UFC 299 (all results here). It was a highly anticipated fight that unfortunately ended with an American victory by KO in the second round. But what the public didn’t know was that this clash between the two warriors was also a ticket… for a title shot against Islam Makhachev (25-1)!

Indeed, on June 2, the Dagestani, UFC lightweight champion (-70kg), is defending his belt against Dustin Poirier at UFC 302 (fight card here). While it’s no surprise to see ‘The Diamond,’ ranked fourth in the division, earning a title shot, no one expected BSD to get a shot at the belt if he had won. The Frenchman was, at the time of fighting the American, ranked 13th in the lightweight division, with a 5-1 record in the organization. However, in an interview with RMC Fighter Club, the manager of ‘God of War,’ Giom Peltier, assured that the Frenchman would have gotten a title shot if he had beaten Poirier: “Everything was already signed,” he claims.

The story could have been different for BSD because if he had won, he would likely be fighting this weekend at UFC 302! Do you think this fight against Islam Makhachev would have come too soon ?
